Yamunotri is the source of Yamuna river and is situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters in Himalayas and is one of the four sites of Char Dham pilgrimage. The Yamunotri temple is dedicated to goddess Yamuna with an idol in the form of a black marble. Gangotri, a popular spiritual town in Uttarkashi district is a hindu pilgrim on the banks of the river Bhagirathi(origin of river Ganges). The Gangotri temple is built by the Nepalese general Amar Singh Thapa and goddess Ganga devi is being worshiped here. This temple will remain closed from Diwali and will be reopened on Akshaya Tritiya.
