Temples To Visit In Tirupati

Tiruchanur 

Tiruchanur is located in Tirupati at a distance of around 4.7 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 3.8 KM from Tirupati bus stand. It is a popular temple city with the temple of goddess Padmavathi devi also known as Alamelu Mangamma with her consort lord Venkateswara. According to puranas, goddess Lakshmi was born as Alamelu to the ruler of this region, Akasa Raja and married to Lord Venkateswara. 

Govinda Raja Swamy Temple

The Govinda Raja Swamy temple is located in Tirupati just 300 m away from Tirupati railway station and 1.2 Km away from Tirupati bus stand. This is an ancient Hindu temple built during the 12th century and was consecrated(Prathista) by saint Ramanuja. In this temple, the deity is in reclining yoga nidra posture facing east with the right hand under his head and left hand straight over his body. According to Puranas, Govinda raja swamy is the elder brother of Venkateswara.

Kapila Theertham

Kapila Theertham is located in Tirupati at a distance of around 4.3 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 3.4 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Kapila Maharshi had worshipped Kapileswara Swamy(lord siva) in the underground during Krita Yuga. Once for some reasons Kapileswara swamy split the earth and appeared here and this is why it is called the Kapila lingam. It also has the popular waterfall called Kapila theertham here to spend some time. 

Kodandarama Temple

The kodandarama temple is one of the famous temples located in Tirupati at a distance of around 1.5 KM from Tirupati bus stand and around 1.1 KM from Tirupati railway station. Sri Kodandaramaswami temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, who is one of the forms of Vishnu in Treta Yuga. This temple hosts idols of the deities Lord Rama, Goddess Sita (consort of Lord Rama) and Lord Lakshmana along with a small shrine of Lord Hanuman. According to Puranas, it is said that Lord Rama along with Sita and Lord Lakshmana resided in this place when he was in return from Lankapuri.

Appalayagunta 

Appalayagunta is a popular place inTirupati, located at a distance of around 16 KM from Tirupati bus stand and around 16.6 KM from Tirupati railway station. Appalayagunta, being in Tirupati district is known for Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy temple, with the idol of lord Venkateswara having its right hand in Abhaya posture. 

ISKCON temple 

ISKCON Temple is another famous temple in Tirupati which is located at a distance of around 4.2 KM and around 3.6 KM from Tirupati railway station. ISKCON means International Society for Krishna Consciousness also known as Hare Krishna Movement. They promote Bhagavad Gita, Krishna philosophy and bhakti yogas internationally. The Tirupati ISKCON temple is near to Kapila Tirtha and is popularly known as Hare Krishna temple. It is an attractive place for visitors with the greenery of lawns around the temple.

Vakula Devi Temple

The Vakula matha temple is located around Tirupati in Perur, at a distance of around 8.8 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 9.8 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Vakula Devi temple was built around 300 years ago on Perubanda hillock around Perur in Tirupati. In this temple the idol of goddess Vakula matha faces the seven hills, where her son Venkateswara resides.

Narayanavanam 

Narayanavanam is a popular location near Tirupati at a distance of around 38 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 37 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Narayanavanam is popular for the temple of  Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy, with a deity of Lord Venkateswara who is the other form of Vishnu and his consort goddess Padmavathi devi. It is the place where lord Venkateswara Swamy and goddess Padmavathi amman got married.

Japali Teertham 

Japali Teertham is a popular location near Tirupati at a distance of around 26.5 KM  from Tirupati railway station and at a distance of 28.3 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Jabali Teertham is a temple of lord Hanuman. A sage named Jabali starts chanting on the hill to get the form of Hanuman in advance. Then, Rudra, impressed by his deep penance, shows the upcoming form of him which is the Hanuman Avatar. As the incarnation formed after penance(Japam), this theertham got the name as Japali Anjaneya Swamy and is called Jabali teertham as all other holy water sources come together and join here.

Tirumala Temple 

Tirumala is a hill near Tirupati that is popular for the lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple. It is at a distance of around 23.1 KM from Tirupati bus stand and at a distance of around 21.3 KM from Tirupati railway station. Tirumala is a famous spiritual centre with the shrine of Lord Venkateswara on the Tirumala hills. It is believed that Venkateswara, the form of Vishnu, came to save mankind from the consequences that occur in Kaliyuga. This is why the lord is referred to as Kali Yuga Pratyaksha dhaivam and the temple is also called Kaliyuga Vaikuntam.

Venu Gopala Swamy Temple

Venu Gopala Swamy temple is located near Tirupati in Chandragiri at a distance of around 25.1 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 26.9 KM from Tirupati bus stand. This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu that was constructed around the 14th century by saint Sri Ramanujacharya with idols of lord Krishna in the name of Venu Gopala, Rukmini devi and goddess Satyabhama along with a small shrine of Sri Seetharamula Pattabhishekam. 

Gudimallam

Gudimallam is located near Tirupati in Yerpedu mandal and is at a distance of around 26.9 KM from Tirupati bus stand and around 27.5 KM from Tirupati railway station. Gudimallam is popular for the temple of lord Shiva in the name of Parasurameswara and in the form of a lingam. It is known for the ancient linga in this temple designed as a full length standing figure carved on the front of the lingam.

Chandragiri 

Chandragiri is a popular pilgrimage site with Kodanda rama temple. Chandragiri is located near Tirupati at a distance of around 15.2 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 16.3 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Kodanda rama temple in Chandragiri is dedicated to lord Rama and houses the idols of lord Rama, Goddess Sita, lord Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughnadala that are seated on a single pedestal while the idols of Lord Hanuman and Garuda on either side. 

Sri Varaha Swamy Temple

Sri Varaha Swamy or Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy temple is located in Tirumala near Tirupati at a distance of around 24.8 KM from Tirupati bus stand and around 23.6 KM from Tirupati railway station. Bhu Varahaswamy is a form of Vishnu. This temple is located in the north-west corner of Pushkarini of Tirumala temple and is east facing. It is believed that this temple is older than the Venkateswara temple and is called the Adi Varaha Kshetra. 

Sri Kalahasti 

Sri Kalahasti is a popular spiritual town near Tirupati with the famous shrine of lord Shiva and is at a distance of around 38 KM from Tirupati railway station and around 36.5 KM from Tirupati bus stand. Srikalahasti word is derived from three words ‘Sree’ means Spider, ‘Kala’ means Snake and ‘hasti’ means elephant. This place is famous for the temple of Lord Shiva in the name of Srikalahasteeswara in the form of Vayu lingam which is one of the pancha bhoota lingas.
